Do you have questions?

Questions clients ask us in Dominican Republic

Clear answers on cargo insurance, road corridors, DIAN and incidents in transit.

Cargo insurance directly protects the full value of the goods for the owner, while the carrier's cargo insurance only covers the transport company's legal and financial liability if that company is at fault for the damage or loss.

It depends on the cover taken out. Basic cover does not cover theft; it covers only total loss from an accident or overturning, among other events. To cover qualified theft (with violence) on the country's road corridors, you need Full Cover all-risk, which is what we recommend for operations on those corridors.

For clearance of imported goods, DIAN may require the insurance certificate as support for the customs value. JAH issues the certificate in less than 1 minute from acceptance of the policy, in the format required for filings with DIAN and customs agencies.

First: do not touch the damaged cargo without giving notice. Before you unload, repair or dispose of the goods, notify JAH of the incident. This preserves your right to claim. JAH places a reservation of rights with the carrier, coordinates the survey with the insurer and handles the documents (transport document, invoice, policy, photos of the damage) through to settlement.
